REEEC Associate Director Maureen Marshall joined with other educational and non-profit organizations in an event announcing the creation of a Georgian Studies program at Harvard. “As some of our University of Illinois students have learned in recent years, it has been a real challenge to study Georgian and Georgia in the United States,” Marshall said. “I hope that this new center helps to shine a brighter light on the country and encourage more interest and engagement with the South Caucasus in the U.S.”
Attendees at the event included: Stephen Jones, Professor, Russian Studies, Mount Holyoke College, who will direct the program; Marusya Chavchavadze, Executive Director, American Friends of Georgia; the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili; Veronika Metonidze, President, Georgian Association; Maureen Marshall, Associate Director, REEEC, and President, ARISC; Talin Lindsay, Executive Director, ARISC; Melory Tsipouria, Honorary Consul, Honorary Consulate of Georgia; and Mamuka Tsereteli, Senior Fellow for Eurasia, American Foreign Policy Council.
